Volume 1 is located here: The RATM Chronicles - Vol 1
First let's go back and review some background. The founders met together many times, wrote many well reasoned papers (the Federalist Papers etc.), and debated in order to create a new republic, of the people and for the people. One essence of this process was the creation of a “civil society”, one where people were well behaved toward each other. After all, that was the basis of their entire discussion. These gentlemen were well educated, and civil toward each other, even while having disagreements on various points. And overall, they were quite successful in doing so.
The definition of “civility” can be found online here: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/civility
Noun | 1. | civility - formal or perfunctory politeness good manners, courtesy - a courteous manner incivility - deliberate discourtesy |
2. | civility - the act of showing regard for others politeness action - something done (usually as opposed to something said); "there were stories of murders and other unnatural actions" courtesy - a courteous or respectful or considerate act deference, respect - a courteous expression (by word or deed) of esteem or regard; "his deference to her wishes was very flattering"; "be sure to give my respects to the dean" devoir - formal expression of respect |
So in reviewing the recent posts
on twitter, in the #insen tag, a staggering lack of civility has been noted. In particular, a lot of name calling goes on. I am reminded that when a debater turns to name calling, it is generally regarded that he has lost the debate and is trying to direct the listeners attention away from that fact. Just a single days review of tweets gives so many consisting of offensive remarks, name calling, derogatory innuendo, etc. that it is ponderous just to review them and obtain screen shots of them.

Personal attacks, or the “ad hominum” attack is recognized as a logical fallacy.
An ad hominem (Latin for "to the man"), short for argumentum ad hominem, is an attempt to negate the truth of a claim by pointing out a negative characteristic or unrelated belief of the person supporting it. Ad hominem reasoning is normally described as a logical fallacy, more precisely an informal fallacy and an irrelevance.

One of the most common offenders are the @RATM4 and @MTARRATM ids previously discussed in the RATM Chronicles Vol 1. Perhaps as many as 50% or more of the tweets are offensive. For instance this one:
The term used here “Tbag” and in other tweets “Tea Bagger” etc is a derogatory reference to a homosexual practice.
The very first coast-to-coast Tea Party was April 15, 2009. That was the night Anderson Cooper and Wolf Blitzer shared a laugh when Cooper called the demonstrators “teabaggers.”
The Tea Party movement was modeled after the Boston Tea Party. Tea Bags had not been invented in the late 1700's. All tea was made with loose tea. Tea bags have no relationship to the Tea Party. These terms used by RATM and others are simple derogatory name calling or ad hominum attacks.
It is perhaps not surprising that RATM contradicts himself inside one tweet accusing someone of name calling, while name calling in the same tweet. At the end is a small collection from RATM4 and others demonstrating their lack of civility. One should note that Joe Donnelly has ads accusing Richard Mourdock of a “My Way or the Highway” approach. We have defeated that reasoning at Statist-Blockade [here] but this adds even more weight to that argument. Ask yourself whether these tweets, often retweeted by many Democrats and Liberals, represent a group of individuals that seem ready and willing for political compromise. They of course do not. It is their way, or the Highway with lots of name calling to tend you on your way. Note carefully that NO one from @indems or the media has chastised any of this in the least way. That indicates to me they are all in for it. Some even retweet it.
And note that even the term “Occupy” implies violence as occupation of a place or business and is theft. Additionally, violence, rape, murder, theft, and other crimes have been associated with the #OWS perpetrators in significant numbers. Conversely, no crimes of any sort, or property damage has been associated with any Tea Party and related events except for those where they were attacked by outsiders.
The point we are making here is this: America, the United States, was formed by the founders as a civil society meaning they acted and intended that it would continue to improve. Problems were worked out in rational thought provoking essays, debates, and resolutions. On the other hand, name calling, innuendo, violence, property damage, false accusations, libel, etc. degrade society and if continued to its conclusion, destroy it. It is imperative that we dismiss the background noise made by the Socialists, #OWS (Occupy Wall Street), the like and pursue the sound ideals and philosophy set forth by the Founders in the creation of this country as spelled out in the Constitution and other founding documents.
Votes for candidates that support the Constitution and civil discourse such as Richard Mourdock, Romney / Ryan, and others is a necessary part of your support for the Constitution. Choose wisely.
To further illustrate the vile attitude shown by some Twitter IDs here are some of their past tweets, in no particular order. Remember, these attitudes are expressed when the person does not have a defensible position. And when profanity and other abuse isn't used, blatant lies are. Plenty of accusations without any proof. Facts are twisted and misrepresented to appear differently than they are. Instead of this kind of attitude, we need to stick with sound principles that have worked throughout history.
Also, as you read or have read #insen, note that many Democrats / Liberals retweet these tweets thus indicating their approval.
